AI-Powered Package Optimisation

AI packaging algorithm has been quietly leading the way in sustainable packaging for several years now in the public sector.  With Sustainability and Transportation cost being dominant in a good supply business model SME now need to play catch up and move away from human based packaging decision. Packaging has for some time been over engineered and there is no evidence-based algorithm/Model to disprove it, so we keep doing the same things the same way, with the same over engineered packaging.

Despite what many might think of the commercial packaging environment industry is using AI packaging model learns from real-world customer complaints and returns data and are therefore able to significantly reduce damage to products and choose the optimum package for a product. (These Model can be tweaked for and locational bias to enable a change of packaging for hostile environments (Temperature / Moisture)

This machine learning model has been applied to hundreds of thousands of commercial packages, reducing shipment damage by 24% while cutting shipping costs by 5% – Given the amount of inventory moving around the average businesses supply chain this add up to a significant cost saving, but layered on that and shipment damage reduction of 24% could have a significant cost saving.

The packaging algorithms in these AI model can specify padded mailers instead of boxes for certain items or deliveries, making packages lighter. This means more packages can fit on every delivery truck, aeroplane, ship which will reduces the amount of packaging that will eventually need to be recycled. In turn, this reduces the overall carbon footprint per item while cutting delivery costs.

Given the drive to a sustainable supply chain there is need to start to use the technology now
