MoD aims to rationalise IT applications for equipment and asset management
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is working on a new Defence Equipment and Asset Management System (DEEAMS) to rationalise its existing IT application estate.
Its DES (Defence Equipment and Support) Digital delivery team is preparing to run a procurement process – valued at between £100 million and £150 million – for a systems integrator to work on the project with the delivery of a pan-defence ‘engineering through life support’ (ETLS) capability.
This will replace three equipment, asset and management systems – JAMES, UMMS and Goldesp – along with more than 20 bespoke applications and paper based systems.
According to the MoD’s prior information notice, the systems integrator will manage the introduction of a solution based on commercial off-the-shelf software, handling data migration from legacy systems, integration with other MoD systems, system acceptance and assurance. The company will also be expected to deliver a core basic training package for further development by a third party.
“DEEAMS will address a significant scope of activity within defence support, specifically engineering and equipment support, which includes maintenance and repair, engineering planning, obsolescence, technical information, safety management, enhancing and expanding the capabilities of the current equipment and asset management applications,” the notice says.
“These activities are serviced by more than 100,000 users across the Defence Support Network comprising MoD, civil servants, and industry partners.”
