{"id":601,"date":"2022-11-07T10:58:09","date_gmt":"2022-11-07T10:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/supplychaintechnology.co.uk\/?p=601"},"modified":"2022-11-07T11:01:57","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T11:01:57","slug":"the-defence-science-and-technology-laboratory-dstl-has-announced-the-formation-of-the-defence-centre-for-ai-research-dcar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/supplychaintechnology.co.uk\/?p=601","title":{"rendered":"<strong>The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has announced the formation of the Defence Centre for\u00a0AI\u00a0Research (DCAR).<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukauthority.com\/articles\/dstl-announces-defence-centre-for-ai-research\/\">https:\/\/www.ukauthority.com\/articles\/dstl-announces-defence-centre-for-ai-research\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has announced the formation of the Defence Centre for&nbsp;AI&nbsp;Research (DCAR).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The step has been taken, in collaboration with the Alan Turing Institute, as part of the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ukauthority.com\/articles\/strategy-paper-sets-out-ai-plans-for-defence\/\" target=\"_blank\">Defence AI Strategy<\/a>&nbsp;and to align with the recently established Defence AI Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The DCAR has been funded through the Ministry of Defence\u2019s Chief Scientific Advisor and will focus on problems in advancing an artificial intelligence capability in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dstl said it will work in areas including low short learning \u2013 the ability to train machines to learn without the need for vast amounts of data \u2013 the application of AI to war gaming, understanding the limits of AI models, managing multiple sensors and human-centric AI. It will also investigate the associated ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It added that in many cases the outcomes could be of interest to the wider UK
